Questo progetto nasce per sensibilizzare sui rischi insiti nel mondo informatico. In primis la produzione di dati da parte di cittadini molto spesso ignari. Per troppo tempo l’aggettivo virtuale è stato legato al mondo informatico, quasi come sinonimo di digitale. Se è vero che le parole ed il modo in cui parliamo influenzano il nostro modo di pensare, ne consegue che pensiamo al mondo informatico come un mondo etereo, immateriale, immaginario e altro. La verità è che non è nessuna di queste cose. Di solito più una tecnologia è sofisticata e più è discreta, quasi invisibile. Siamo entrati nell’era che “della tecnologia calma” descritta dall’ informatico americano Mark Weiser già nel 1996. elemento onnipresente ma discreto, da diventare sfondo delle nostre esistenze. Le tecnologie sono così radicate nello spazio che lo trasformano in modi inaspettati, e con esso le economie, i rapporti sociali e le strutture di potere.

Da qui l’idea di traslare al mondo fisico e tangibile gli effetti che queste tecnologie hanno, ma soprattutto svelare l’immenso potere, e quindi valore, contenuto nei dati e nelle informazioni che ogni giorno produciamo e regaliamo alle corporation informatiche.

Da questo deriva il tema urgente della distribuzione della ricchezza. Le corporation della cosiddetta platform economy, Airbnb, Uber, ma anche social network come ad esempio Instagram vengono spesso definiti piattaforme estrattive: producono valore, creano ricchezza ma non la distribuiscono nella città e nelle comunità di riferimento o con gli utenti del servizio. Uber Jump è un caso paradigmatico di questo atteggiamento, ma soprattutto svela possibili ed inquietanti scenari futuri: quando molte attività e servizi verranno automatizzati, in che modo si distribuirà la ricchezza creata. Quando Uber non avrà più autisti, quando Amazon non impiegherà più persone nei propri magazzini e fattorini per le consegne, ecco che queste corporation estrarranno senza restituire nulla.

Altro caso emblematico è quello di Instagram, società che quando fu acquisita da Facebook nel 2012 per 1 miliardo di dollari contava solo 13 dipendenti. In questo caso sono gli utenti stessi che generando e condividendo i contenuti creano valore.

Il progetto gioca con l’ambiguità fisico-digitale e propone dei fotomontaggi. Nel mondo digitale basta una foto per dimostrare che qualcosa sia accaduto davvero. In questo caso un muro digitale è ancora più potente di uno fisico e le immagini in potenza raggiungeranno migliaia di persone.
